Bank Transfer, Gift, Voucher or Viing Credit: Which Should You Choose?

Bank Transfer, Gift, Voucher or Viing Credit: Which Should You Choose?

Bank Transfer, Gift, Voucher or Viing Credit: Which Should You Choose?

Once your Viing collection ends, you can decide what to do with the money.

That flexibility is useful, but it can also leave organisers wondering which option is best.

Should you choose a physical gift? Send a voucher? Give the recipient Viing Credit? Or withdraw the money to a bank account?

There is no single right answer. The best option depends on how well you know the recipient, how quickly the gift is needed and how much flexibility you want to give them.

Here is a simple guide.

Choose a physical gift when you want the moment to feel personal

A physical gift is often the best choice when the group wants to present something thoughtful and tangible.

It works particularly well for:

The organiser chooses the gift using the money collected, and standard 3–5 working day delivery is included in the product price.

A physical gift may be right when:

Things to consider

Check that the gift suits the recipient and that there is enough time for delivery.

A physical gift can feel more personal than money, but it offers less flexibility if you are unsure what the recipient would choose for themselves.

Choose a voucher when you know where they like to shop

A digital voucher gives the recipient choice while still feeling like a selected gift.

It can be a good middle ground between choosing a specific product and simply giving money.

A voucher may be right when:

There is no separate platform fee for choosing a voucher. The collection is used towards the voucher value.

Things to consider

A voucher is usually limited to a particular retailer or service, so it is worth choosing somewhere the recipient is likely to use.

If you are uncertain, Viing Credit may offer them more flexibility.

Choose Viing Credit when you want the recipient to decide

Viing Credit allows you to send the collection to the recipient without choosing a specific gift or retailer for them.

The recipient can then decide how to use it.

There is no fee to send Viing Credit.

Viing Credit may be right when:

This is particularly useful for workplace collections, larger pots and occasions where the recipient’s preferences are unclear.

Things to consider

The recipient will need to claim their Viing Credit using the secure process provided.

If they later choose to withdraw it to a bank account, the relevant bank-withdrawal processing fee will apply.

Choose a bank transfer when you need the money outside Viing

A bank transfer gives the organiser or recipient the freedom to use the funds elsewhere.

For example, the organiser may have already purchased a gift, need to pay a supplier directly or want to arrange something that is not available through Viing.

A 5% processing fee applies when money is withdrawn to a bank account.

A bank transfer may be right when:

Why is there a fee?

Offering bank transfers involves payment processing, compliance, security and operational costs.

We charge the fee only when this option is selected, rather than deducting a percentage from every collection.

We would rather continue offering bank transfers with a clear fee than remove the option altogether.

Add a printed card or ViingBoard

The money does not have to be the only part of the gift.

The messages collected through Viing can be turned into a printed group card or a digital ViingBoard.

A printed card is a good option when the group will see the recipient in person or wants to give them something tangible to keep.

A ViingBoard works well for remote teams, last-minute occasions and recipients who live further away.

These are optional products with clearly displayed prices.

Can you combine different options?

Yes.

Once the occasion has ended, you can use the pot in more than one way.

For example, you could:

This gives you more flexibility when the final collection total is different from what you expected.

A simple comparison

Physical gift

Best for: A thoughtful, tangible present
Recipient choice: Lower
Delivery needed: Yes
Bank-transfer fee: No

Voucher

Best for: Choice within a known retailer
Recipient choice: Medium
Delivery needed: Usually digital
Bank-transfer fee: No

Viing Credit

Best for: Giving the recipient broad flexibility
Recipient choice: High
Delivery needed: No
Fee to send: No

Bank transfer

Best for: Using the money outside Viing
Recipient choice: Maximum
Delivery needed: No
Processing fee: 5%

What if you do not know what to choose?

Start with three questions:

  1. Do we know what the recipient would genuinely like?

  2. Do we want to choose the gift, or let the recipient decide?

  3. Does the money need to be used outside Viing?

If you know what they want, a physical gift may feel most personal.

If you know where they like to shop but not the exact item, a voucher may work well.

If you want to give them broader choice, Viing Credit is likely to be the most flexible option.

If the money needs to be used elsewhere, a bank transfer may be the right choice.

Decide after you know the final total

You do not need to make the final decision when you create the collection.

Waiting until the occasion ends allows you to see how much has been collected before choosing.

A larger-than-expected pot might make a more substantial gift possible. A smaller pot may be better suited to a voucher or credit.

This removes the pressure of committing too early.

The best option is the one that suits the recipient

Every collection is different.

Some recipients will love opening a carefully chosen present. Others would prefer a voucher, flexible credit or money towards something they already have in mind.

Viing gives organisers several options because group gifting should not force every occasion into the same outcome.

Choose the option that feels right for the recipient, the group and the moment—and see all relevant prices or fees before you confirm.
